View Full Version : Forage day out, north wales

Blood

Evening all
I was thinking of organising a days bimble up this way with a view to foraging and beach combing.
I'm no expert in any sense but a day together with like minded folks is a day well spent in my mind.
Any interest? No dates or location in mind yet
:-)

Easy peasy, loads of it round here as ya know. Plenty of reserve and wildlife bits tucked here n there. Thinking about the marshes behind shotton ranges

Friday 28th any good for folk to attend?

Suggestions for locations more than welcome. We'll do places in the hat.

Like I said I am no expert and this is an informal bimble for folk to share their knowledge, from identifying right through to cooking and scoffing so stoves are a must! :-)

Sylvanbilly

The only free days I have are weekend days unfortunatly, got quite a few hols booked already for canoe camping this year, so only a few left for emergancies, weekend s dont suit everyone I know, i`ll just have to keep an eye on the next times date.
Maybe when the long summer nights come eh.

Could be worth looking around the Talacre area for cockles, trouble is I've been informed the area was altered by the big recent storm.
Mostyn area for moules, lots of rocks and there is a good place to park that i know of.

Can anyone tell me how I put the little campfire at the bottom of my messages. Tried drag and drop, just inserts the word "campfire" :{)

You were nearly right, simply click the smiley icon in the editor bar and click the icon of choice in the window that opens.
It will be placed where flashing editor is.
Hope that makes sense. :confused2:

Is someone going make up an itinerary list to bring for the cooking washing of foraged fair, stoves pans etc? Then we can share the list between who's coming ? Or is it every man for himself ? Either way no probs, just need to know,

it was nice to meet up with some off you shame its was slim pickins still had a nice wander and chin wag think a big tide would help for the razer clams I will have a chat with
a mate at work his into his fishing and see if there are some good hot spots for the edibles and maybe we could all organise another meetup !

Sylvanbilly

Guys remember when we crossed that ditch where it was a bit boggy? Do you remember me bending down and picking those leafs of them small bushes that look grey in colour, bit rubbery plant, I snapped the small leaf and it looked very juicy and watery, well I am sure that's called sea purslane, just did some research, I think the grey ish stuff was the silt / mud off the tide,

I went for a ride down to penmaenmawr yesterday, it was a nice day so thought I would do a recce, with there being proof that its a hot spot for clams, it might be worth giving it a go, the only bad side to it I would say, it's too tidy, it's either sand/beach or water, and rock, we need the more of an untidily kept kind of beach, more naturally left to cope for itself, where maybe some greenery around it like marshy type field close by, also going to check the table blood put a link up for and look for the highest and very lowest tide at the same time as a full moon,

Sylvanbilly
10-03-2014, 08:03 PM
Just had a gander at the tides times, and I think the next best ish time to go is on the 29th-30th march, the only down side is its not full moon, but you'll have to wait until July to get everything just right. So I propose one of these days for the next forage, anyone up for that?

Valantine
10-03-2014, 08:04 PM

Defo a good idea to have regular forage days as no matter what you plan somebody somewhere can't make it for one reason or other, so having more days at least people came make some of the meets. Also different places to go.
