i'm after a bit of advice as i'm not sure and dont want to damage my wildlife hatchet.
now i know you should only use wood on the poll of the axe for batoning etc but i have a couple of wedges for splitting logs which are made of a hard polycarbinate/plastic material and i'm not sure if its ok to knock them in with the poll of the axe.
i got them so as not to damage the shaft whilst splitting larger material but because they are so hard i was a bit wary ....thaks....kev

It will be fine, just be careful not to hit the handle.

Tbh you could just make a maul, it takes any paranoia out of it for you.

I have a Rosselli Carpenters axe that is designed for using as a hammer. I really can't see that much difference in the head strength between this or any other well made axe so can't see why a lump of plastic should cause any problems.

It's more if you smash the shaft off it I think.

the shaft will be fine,i wont be going mad with it,it was just whether the material was hard enough to do any damage to the axe head...peace of mind i will use a maul, thanks for the replys....kev
