View Full Version : What hammock do you use?

After my good lady (who did not like the idea of Hammocking) spent a comfortable afternoon sleeping my TW Hornet whilst I was trying out my newly purchased TW Insulated Horent which I subsequently sent back due to cold spots, I now see this as an ideal opportunity to upgrade and pass my TW to the good lady.
I've looked at several hammocks including the Warbonnet Blackbird, Lawson Blueridge, DD Jungle Hammock and similar priced Hennessy set ups, but without being able to see these in the flesh I've had to comb the internet for reviews.
I was about to pull the trigger on the Lawson until a review revealed a potential flaw with water running into the corners of the hammock.
So, to gather a better understanding, I thought I'd ask you guys which hammocks you use, have used and find the best....
Many Thanks,

I have the TW Hornet but also have the TW XL one. which I agree with Tony, wasn't expensive at all.
The TW gear seems to be a lot better made and looking around on different forums and Youtube, there are no real complaints about their gear compared to the ones DD get quite often. DD's new modular hammock seems to be a very similar construction to the Hornet in a lot of ways and is nearly twice the price.
I will stick to my TW gear. I know I am getting more than my money's worth and after all this time, not even one thread has frayed from any of my gear.

I have a Tenth Wonder XL hammock and DD Travel hammock.
The TW one was the first I bought (a few years ago now - I think it cost me about £10 at the time, though the price has gone up since I got mine). It's a simple, basic, hammock - no mossie net. It's double-layered so you can slip a mat in there (but has no way of closing the layers, although no mat has ever slipped out). I just have the ropes going through the ends, so a pretty simple set up, making it small and compact (I can stuff it all into a XS Exped dry bag!). Perfect for a day out. DD do an equivalent version of this hammock.
The DD Travel hammock has the built in mossie net (very useful for insect-ridden summers), it has a closable waterproof bottom layer (so can be used on the ground as a bivvy tent), poles for keeping the net up, and I've added carabiners for setting up. So it's a bigger pack size and I'm more inclined to use the DD for nights out. TW also do a similar spec hammock.
Build-wise I'd say there's no difference. I've had faults with neither and no quibbles with either. From a purely aesthetic consideration I prefer the green of the TW one. A lot of people ask about comparisons between TW and DD hammocks. Personally, I can see no difference. Go with whoever is offering a deal or has the colour you want. That's the only way I could split the difference to be honest.

A DD Travel Hammock which suits me as it was the first I bought and stuck with since whereas the lad has a TW Hornet which is just as good.
I have a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.1 DL. Best thing I ever bought. The reviews speak for themselves.
The footbox is awesome, It enables a much flatter/more comfortable lay. The shelf is also very nice.
If it wasnt the blackbird the Woodsman X by UKHammocks would have been a very close second choice.
