I had a little wander on the Downs in mind and as the land is a National Park and in Places National Trust too, open fires are not encouraged. Fair enough, I use a little gas stove anyway but thought I'd experiment with a little meths stove as back-up.
Sax cannot operate without brews..:D :D
Usual brew stove..

A doctored hexi stove with the little 'grate' that the fuel sits on cut away.

Assembled upside down over a Highlander meth burner (always found them as effective as posh meths burners)

Assembled that way allows the mug to sit above the burner and give a nice clearance for the flame. Boiled in about 8.5 minutes without a lid.

Just in case I have problems with the meths burner, this little homemade removable 'grate' allows me to burn solid fuel tabs in the normal way if I need to, with the stove the right way up..:)

Carried it halfway across Sussex and never had to use it..:o
