Hi shipmates,

I am sure that you are all aware of the 'European Emergency Phone Number 112'.

This you can call from over 70 countries for emergency assistant (including the U.K.); but did you know that you can send text messages too; critically important if you are in an area with no mobile phone signal.

ch this YouTube video, then "REGISTER" your phone & save the number on your phone (i.e. 112); it could save your life.

Works just the same with 999 too. Except that 999 only works in this country.

Its been well covered,in previous posts on the forum! But never theless, its an important heads up for anyone new or who has over looked it.
Also TXTing rather than phoning can often raise help when signals are low.Registering is a good idea!!
Ps...112 can be called from a locked phone,Handy if the phone u pick up isnt yours at an incident!

And remember if you're on the fells and mountains of the UK its not the ambulance service you ring its the police then ask for Mountain Rescue.

Good point that Wayne, the majority of folks still don't know that it's the Police that have the authority to call out MR.

The ambulance service will call MR direct too due to memoranda of understanding and cross training etc.

That's something I will look into as down here we have been told otherwise by ML trainers :confused2:

I'll clarify my meaning don't forget the ambulance service call MR to non mountain shouts these days too. If you call the AS you will get a crew first or the air ambulance when they realise they need MR support then they can call for it direct without needing to go through Police like they can with military air assets

Sorry if this is incorrect, but I understand that if you call 112 from a mobile they are able to get your position, great if you're not sure.

In the UK triangulation of a mobile positiobn usually needs a high up officials say so and isn't as accurate as you would think...wholly depends on how many masts are picking up the mobile signal....There is an app used by MR called SARLoC which sends location info but only in areas with suitable reception and in conmpatible devices
