Any preference for scran on Saturday night? Was thinking about spit roast chicken but a huge pot of chilli/rice/tortillas/nachos/baked potatoes might be a winner.....?

Chilli sounds easy to square away mate; if everyone decides we could share the meal, all being something?

Big T

Cool. I don't mind getting the ingredients, a couple of quid each will cover it if that's what everyone is happy with? I might have an alternative wooded venue close to st ives, just waiting to hear back from the landowners.

Happy to eat anything you make Chubbs. More than willing to chip in. Shall I bring a load of rolls, bacon and sausages maybe. Try and get the air rifle there without bending it this time :)

Thanks for the heads up re this meet up. Not sure I'll be able to, but I was thinking of checking out woodland valley this weekend, so if that's where you end up I'll come and say hello.

Big T

No worries mate! We're heading up there on Saturday for an overnighter with the possibility of staying Sunday too. Just to make you aware there is a wedding at woodland valley farm this weekend, I emailed Chris (the landowner) and he said that we would have to camp next to the pond so not sure if the woods are being used for the wedding.....

Think the weather is not going to be too kind to us so a raging fire and some rain might help keep the nippers at bay.
My parachute is being used elsewhere but I have a selection of large dd tarps we could put up for some communal shelter.
Is there any fish in the pond or is it off limits?

Chubbs

Apparently there are fish in the pond, Chubb's mate was talking about it the other day. Chris is happy for anyone to fish if they want to.

Might bring a small set up with me then. Don't know anything about freshwater fishing but I reckon Chubbs can help with some advice :)

Scott was telling us at the RV that they had fished it. If I remember rightly, they hooked Perch and Roach and ate them.

Yep, caught a monster there once myself

Have your boots ready though as the high water level can make it a bit muddy around the fringes.

Like your style mate! Be sweet if you could bring your target, I almost bought one today but bit skint after my recent purchases! Lol! I will have to zero my rifle when I'm there as won't have time or opportunity beforehand.

Is it a surprise or can you tell us what rifle you got?

Scott
20-05-2014, 08:35 PM
As Neil said I have had a few Perch and Roach out of the pond a little small but not bad eating. However like Justin said if your planning on fishing I would take wellies as it was pretty boggy around the pond last time we were there.

A BSA / Gamo Hornet, trago special! Was looking at an SMK xs36 but decided the BSA was a better buy. Was abit sceptical as it was only £85 but took it to my local Gunsmiths and they chrony'd it at 11.8 ftlbs!

Great weekend with top friends. Plenty of laughs, lovely food (including chewy squirrel) and the weather behaved until it was time to pack up. Approaching the place we set up was a nightmare with mud too deep for wellies in places, but once there it was lovely. Looking forward to the next one now.

Didn't get any rabbits, skate bagged a squirrel though which made good eating! I didn't have time to zero my rifle beforehand and was a bit of a faff trying to do it in the woods, so couldn't hit a barn door! It's on my list of things to do before the next meet.

Behind the pond, in the far corner. Was nice and sheltered, was raining a bit but we kept pretty dry. Nice spot but a bit soggy going to get there!

We drove into the field next to the pond, through a gate into the pond area then walked around the edge of the pond to the back. We were a a few hundred yards away from the pig enclosure.

A great weekend had by all once again. Weather stayed mostly fine for the duration but the odd shower was sorted by Skate who put up a large tarp high over the fire. The tarp earned its money on Sunday when we had to pack when it decided to drop a bucketful down BigT's neck !!.

Food was a camp chilli and some of the best bacon and sausages I have ever eaten which was brought by Skate. Great to see Lyn again, she really does make the camp a happier place.

Can't wait til next time.
