I've not seen anyone actually use one of those big'uns! Swiss Champ maybe? Short and to the point. Has DC seemed little rushed in his videos lately or is it just me? Thanks for the post!

I use it on char cloth and amadou quite often, but never powder the way dave does it, amadou still takes well without turning it into a powder

hello,
I was taught to carry either a magnifier or lens of sorts in my grab bag from away back in the 1980's from Selection. Presently I have an old small lens from a pair of binoculars & a Swiss Army Knife with magnifier lens. I picked up a small magnifying glass from WHS Smith for a few pounds fits perfectly in the fire lighting kit, plastic handle can be cut away to leave the magnifier *optional my friend in the opticians when I was having my glasses repaired, warmed/shaped the handle bent to the shape of my palm tip of thumb to palm of hand, cups nicely plus it acts with the hand as a wind shield. Used such in a recent demo the warmest day we had +19C with a small piece of amadou tinder. *I'll add that a magnifying glass can be added/removed from your kit pending usage weather conditions due to the size. Having such on a knife takes up less space.
Regards
David

hello,
After thought.. a Ferro Rod could be embedded along the spine, glued in place, of the magnifying glass handle, then a small hole drilled near the bottom of the handle to incorporate a lanyard with a steel striker & on the broad part of the handle a small piece of abrasive material or cut off from a small nail file or sorts as a striker for matches glued on. This would give you three fire lighting methods in one when the magnifying glass can't be used

David

You could replace the corkscrew on some models with a ferro-rod somehow (similar size-ish, hmm, eyeing up my SAK Spartan as I type). Who uses the corkscrew? ( I just KNOW I should not ask this question!)
