A windy & cloudy day on the Walchensee. SUP for connoisseurs.
It's that Girl again....
(I am training to use the SUP in all conditions so I can do longer (bushcraft) expeditions)

Maybe its our age Mike, sorry Susanne, I can see you get a real high off it but I dont get it. Give me a kayak or canoe for that sort of work every time.I could understand it a little if someone was skint but you can get a good used canadian canoe for less than an S U P and ( imo) a kayak or canoe is much more versatile, but you luv it and thats great and all the best ot you, Ken.
Be a Dinghy for me. Hey Mike youv'e been round the block a few times ( like me ) have you done any sailing ? , Ken

Not realy Ken.Built a mirror Dinghy years ago.(stiched ply)have had a few dinghies.pushed along with an outboard.Family picknicks on the river ouse, around York, etc.Gave up thinking about anything sereous, when many years ago i was going vto spend £3000 on a Fletcher Arrow.plus an outboard to get it on plane.n maybe use it 8times a year!As I was driving a £500 pound car...thought it would be more sense to invest in four wheels..
Did a bit of canoeing, kayaking ,even tried surfing in OZ.on my vareous visits.Much warmer...
74 next birthday.Mind thinks I'm 50.Body reminds me know n again that I'm not.lol.
If I don't swallow the tablet fast enough....I get a stiff neck.lol.ATB.Mike
ps.most of the rivers, streams, burns I paddle in now (when GOLD prospecting) are too shallow to float a boat!!!

I actually have several kayaks and a canoe.... :-)
This is much lighter weight and the movement is extremely satisfying since you are using your whole body.
You are also much higher up so you can see into the water much better.
It's like windsurfing as opposed to sailing. You have a far more direct engagement with the water and wind.
Much less hassle when portaging also, and you need hardly any water in the channel to be able to maneuver...
Awesome skillful and slinky...
Google Image "SUP expedition" - it's a really nice aesthetic....

Really very stable these things... You can get sharp pointy tippy ones, but mostly they are just wide planks... :-)

since you are using your whole body. Last thing you want to do when your in your 60's and all your joints are aching from years of donkey work outside in the cold and rain etc.( gave up motorbikes for the same reaon ) But as I say I can see you love it and if I was a lot younger I may be tempted.
You have a far more direct engagement with the water and wind That means ( to me ) you fall in a lot and thats why I sail and not windsurf lol Horses for courses Susanne and if you enjoy it gal go for it. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same thing, diversity rules ok ! atb Ken

All good man. I do also love my canoe and kayaks very much. Just different application.
I have been really seriously humbled by all the 70-plussers here in Bavaria. They have retired, and spend all their time playing outdoors. Windsurf, Ski, Run, Mountainbike...
We call them the silver surfers and they Kick My Ass.
(I actually find I get stiffer and more sore from my kayaks/canoe over the longer distance.)
