Trout season is on!

Just sitting here waiting for the tackle shop to open so that I can get my license sorted, and then it's out in the fog for a day of fishing. :-)

Fishing trip came to an abrupt end....they had not recieved the fishing licence cards from the owners of that particular lake, saying the lake won't open until July 1. They have signs posted all around the lake saying it opens June 10th. I have self deleted the words I used while driving home to protect the innocent.

And with fog as thick as soup above 50 meters I am not going to the higher up lakes that may still be covered with ice...

Bet you hauled up some nice cod and perhaps a halibut?
I am from the very southern border of the same County as Skjervøy, at Harstad.
The cod fishing is not as great, but the Halibut is insane. Friend of mine cought one to 70lb from the
docks in the middle of town :-)

Trout fishing here is also okay, and arctic charr as well, all though you have to go inland fro the big clunkers.

Well, I secured my self licences for most of the good lakes in the area, so will probably go out tomorrow if I can get an early start.

Yes we managed some giant cod, but no Halibut of Wolfish unfortunately. Having said that the weather was so bad we only managed 4 days of fishing.

Next time we go we'l be fishing the rivers (if Mrs Poacher lets me)

Sadly many of the rivers in the southern part of Troms are badly affected by the salmon farms in the fjords. And many rivers that used to be good are destroyed.
Personally I have given up the rivers and now only go for the lakes...I do not know what the situation is in the northern part of the county.
But river Reisa should still be good, as well as many of the smaller rivers in Senja, and Skjervøy area. Northern Troms and Finnmark county is probably some of the best in Europe, if you are prepared to hike for a while...

Now that's a crying shame, such beautiful resources being destroyed by industry :shocked:

Whilst speaking to our fishing guide in the camp he stated that he never fished the oceans which I thought was strange. However he did fly fish in fresh water for Arctic Char. Much more elegant in my opinion.

The Arctic Char or 'Y Torgoch' in Welsh can also be fished here in a few lakes here in Snowdonia, spectacular fish and well respected locally.

If he was from the area I don't think its strange at all. We grow up fishing cod and coalfish, and to most of us, sea fishing is simply boring. It's just a way of getting some fresh fish on the dinner table, and that normally takes about 10 minutes.

Then there are a few nuts like myself who can sit and watch a rod tip all day while waiting for a halibut to bite :-)
But that is mostly tourists also...

But even I tend to be disgusted when I find a cod on my hoook...I am after halibut :-)
But okay, a few for the table now and then, just to keep my wife happy.
