hello,
WIP 'BushClass' I was browsing our local indoor market & was passing the Incense shelf & spotted what I know as a Ski incense holder, a flat pieces of wood with a small hole at the end as to hold joss sticks/incense. The sticker on reverse informs 'Made in India' (idea) as these have decorative markings along the wood which are spaced at an equal distance apart, thinking aloud could these be used in 'Posh Crafting' as a mini Fire Bow Drill hearth board? Prep such as you would any hearth board, lightly sand off the coating back to the natural wood, leave the small decorative markings as a guide/marker for your drill holes, cut a notch near to each marking as you would for a hearth board, sand off any markings on completion. Then from a 2nd holder (same type of wood) cut into strips & shape the lengths for your Bow Drill 'Spindle.' The woods hard enough & may with some pressure create an ember? Plus the small hole on the end which holds the incense could be drilled through, with a thin leather lanyard added. If it works you therefore have a small board compact enough to fit in you pack. C'mon for 99p per board (£1.98) isn't a great loss for a experiment in Bow Drill fire lighting is it? I looked up Wiki for trees native to India as to guess the wood type as there's various colours of wood some darker than others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_timber_trees
