hello,
I was assisting a friend of mine clear out the garage & came across a few items of interest bought from the Pets at Home store which maybe useful as tinder. A slightly expensive purchase BTW. the Namiba Terra Sphagnum moss brick is dried moss, that has been compressed dried to a handy brick size, which I was informed swells under the addition of luke warm water & can increase many times the size. The second brick Coco Coir fibre brick is natural 100% Coconut moisture absorbent too. The coconut brick can hold up to x10 times its weight in water as well. A couple of these were open & I took some samples as to try out as tinder, a few sparks from the ferro rod instant ignition. I've now got myself a couple of bricks in storage as tinder. I'm for now leaving such compacted for storage purposes as said & will soak these small samples for expansion, dry them out, & use these for tinder for the time being. Dried moss makes excellent tinder. Sphagnum moss has also been used for centuries as a dressing for wounds, including through World War I. I understand that these products are from a sustainable resource too. Hopefully of some interest to NBC members.
Regards
David
