Not sure if in the right place.

Started to take my xmas deco's down n thought I would recycle my real xmas tree. (and see if I could get any fatwood from it) by using my hachet to chop it up.

Just to add I'm quite new to bushcraft and was using my hachet for first time.

Thought I was doing my bit for the enviroment Then this happened.

Followed by short trip to hospital and six stiches late went home.

P.s. just glad I was at home when I made this mistake because it won't happen again. Lol

The pain n throbings yet to come. But at least you can still count to ten.
My thoughts are with you.
Hope you never do it again!!Shame you had to learn the hard way.
Can recommend those folding saws ...Much safer.

Owwww
I've been fortunate that my axes have never bit into me, though my Silky pocketboy is responsible for several slashes into my fingers...I keep forgetting that it cuts like a lightsabre :ashamed:.

A nice reminder that when flesh meets steel, flesh always loses. There was a time whenever I took my knife out, the kids made the band aids ready, lol

i had a roller cutter on a flooring sample "chopping board" cutting slingshot pouches...
when all i did was roll it off the end and it just touched my leg...

i first noticed a cut in my jeans about 30 secs later but no blood...
while inspecting the hole i noticed it had actually cut clean through about 4mm skin exposing the white layer underneath...

i thought about stitching it up, but in the end i just glued it shut...

this was maybe a month back and its healing nicely... a few weeks before that i cut into my thumb with my opinel... luckily the bone stopped the blade... that bled a hell of alot... but magic superglue to the rescue again...

You were lucky I remember when working as a butcher my hands were cold and I lost concentration and chopped through thumb with the steak knife that I was sharpening on the steel, it was all because the ex girlfriend walked in, 12 stitches and thumb set in a splint for a few weeks.

My brother was the same, using the meat slicer and got distracted and ended up with his thumb running along the blade. They managed to stitch it back but he still has no feeling on one side of his thumb some 25 years later.

hello,
 I was chopping up a railway sleeper when I was younger (around 15 years old) for kindling. Saw cut into blocks, followed by use of the axe short lengths for kindling. The axe caught my left index finger just above the knuckle, near took off the finger. I still have the V notch around the finger as a reminder :( As I was reminded, if you can do such to yourself, what would you do unto others? I still have that axe.
Regards
David

And when dealing with severe bleeding the acronym SEEP can help you remember what to do

Sit or lay the casualty down

Expose and examine the wound

Elevate the injured part if possible

Pressure apply directly to the wound unless it has a foreign object embedded in it

Any one can make a mistake, it's a fool who doesn't learn from them :)

I was chopping wood with my SFA,
the axe head got stuck in the wood, I grabbed said piece of wood with my bare hands.
A little bit of the edge was exposed and I sliced the end of my finger.
I now wear leather gloves.
I was mid way through a weeks canoe camping, fortunately it wasn't a bad cut and a little first aid I was right as rain.

I have a healthy respect for a VERY sharp tool that we swing with great force and questionable accuracy, I endeavor make sure that bits of me or others are out of range of the swing arc and a possible deflection of the axe blade.

Cheers
Tim
