View Full Version : Paranormal incidents on Cannock Chase?
What do you make of the various claims about ghosts, beasts, UFO's on the chase? What are your experiences camping out there? I've been reading about the murders that occured there and I'm a little creeped out camping there now lol...

Its a bit off my beaten track, but looking forward to hearing about it! From what I've read following a quick google search, I bet there'd be some cracking tales to be told round the camp fire!

I think these stories get exaggerated by people until it becomes a sort of local legend. Doesn't worry me at all...Hang on, there's something making a noise here.....http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Others/grave-110.GIF....http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Surprise/terrified-026.gif

For the people not accustomed to the nightly sounds and sights in the forest, they are in for a bit of a surprise ;). And after a few beers and some ghostly tales muttered around the :campfire:, it's no wonder that many people will over-react when they hear or see something that appears strange to them.
But as far as paranormal activity, there are lots of local legends about "pukwudgi", or Nature spirits of Wampanoag folklore, and other Native tribes in the region have similar stories. Some people describe them as mischievous ghouls who will terrorise you (even going so far as to say that they are "satan's army" :rolleye:), while others maintain that they are harmless. I haven't been attacked by little green men waving tridents or lasers, nor have I seen odd lights or objects in the sky.
Personally, I think that many of these bizarre stories are simply the way these people choose to explain phenomena that they cannot rationalise.

On an overnighter a couple of weeks ago I saw my first 'ghost'. I woke up in the night and saw someone stood out the end of my tarp. I sat up and looked for a bit, then blinked and they were gone. I don't know at which point I actually woke up, or If I dreamt the whole thing but I can see how someone more credulous could be convinced they had actually seen something. Anecdotal evidence is notoriously unreliable at the best of times.

Making children scared of being alone in the forrest, and of the dark, is very practical...reduces the cance of them getting lost, and they come home before dark.

Maybe I should try that one, thanks Rune
