lol!! I've already taken the liberty of googling them but I'm always game for a subtle hint...! ;) Got some old nail punches that I can rework into eye/nostril punches so will have a go next time I've got the forge lit

first attempt at the horses head from an old file with improvised tooling and before cleaning as it started to rain and had to pack the forge up pretty sharpish!

need to make some proper punches for the eyes and nostrils and make a small chisel for the ears and mouth instead of using a nail punch and a hot set. Could also do with making some tooling for shaping the jaw and cheeks rather than trying to fuller them out. Will have another go later in the week. Like that one shaped like a J in the second picture

Pretty dammed good,practical too.
Guess part of the battle is making the tools to make the striker.
Sure you'll get there.
They have such a primitive nievety to them.....

hello,
I agree with midas. BTW I just noticed the reply beermaker quote "I've already taken the liberty of googling them but I'm always game for a subtle hint...!" Honest that wasn't a hint  I contacted Wolf Creek 2014 as I don't have a PayPal account my bank charges me on top of the PayPal costs extortion  so looking at another way to pay for such, got 2 possible methods, awaiting details.

Just pulling your leg David!! :happy-clapping: I showed my boss my attempt at a horse head fire steel and he thinks it looks just like Scooby, his new race horse which is just a little bit unhinged and cranes out of his stable with bulging eyes and ears back and tries to eat your face when you walk past! The next model will have a shorter face, a rounded bottom (ooh err!) and improved ears and mouth to look more horsey and less Easter Island!

hello,
beermaker Did you demonstrate to your boss that the steel striker doubles as a knuckle duster? LOL It looks kind of Iron Age something that Time Team recovered, I mean that in a productive more positive way. I do like it. Don't shorten the nose too much as that's the hand grip. The Wolf Creek version I'd be interested how Lisa West created the head area? I think you have created the neck bend slight cut in a similar fashion, note Lisa West created a slight edge/curve along the inner neck. A nice start to your stable of thoroughbreds.

David
