hello,
I've borrowed one of these from Maplin Electronics pound pot key chains for a field test. The black alloy container is around similar size to a 35mm film canister with a screw on lid. Requires testing for water tightness. Can be utilised for the usual purposes compact fishing kits, sewing kits, tinder/match boxes, etc.. for £1.49 not a bad price. http://www.maplin.co.uk/search?text=pound+pot+key+chain&x=17&y=15

hello,
Thanks for the replies. Neil I'll try the holder as it stands immersed in water overnight, tight fitting cap should be ok, if it does leak, then may try some sort of lubricant within the thread end cap works as a waterproof seal to the thread &/or some electricians tape to seal the end. I've used 35mmm film canisters for various within my grab bag EDC kit but this alloy type's more robust & for £1.49p the price isn't too bad considering & it holds a lot more than the smaller peanut type Rolson alloy key fobs. *BTW Rolson do a similar version with *Rolson embossed on the side big white letters.

I have a couple of the Rolson ones and they are worth a quid all day long. I have a couple of morphine tablets as a backup in one for my back problems and they are as dry as the day they went in about six months ago.
Worth buying a couple if anybody is in Maplins or Tesco.

hello,
Neil I recall you did offer & mention such. Can't go wrong if they're totally waterproof that's for sure & ideal for prescribed medication/water purification tabs. Maplin had their own endorsed version & the Rolson brand. Will keep an eye on the likes of Tesco as I noted Sainsbury's had a line in outdoor equipment too.

I have a similar one but found 5 pound coins heavy on the car keys.So used to keep a fiver note in it.
Did find it was prone to shaking loose,n depositing coins on car floor.
Now in use as a container for water purifaction Tabs.

hello,
The container was left submerged in a glass of water for 24 hours overnight till this afternoon, it remained water tight with the inner rubber seal on the screw on end cap. One of the Maplins store staff gave me the remaining 2 packets for 50p each as they're end of line stock. The store won't be getting any more in unless they continue with the Rolson brand, exact same but have Rolson logo embossed. I don't think I'd have it on my car keys either midas more with an added lanyard in my EDC kit grab bag. Jury's out for now on the actual use, still a *shiny object to me. I was thinking either water purification tabs or additional hobo fishing kit hooks etc..

hello,
Update on the pound pot. WIP I've decided definitely a mini fishing kit holder. Reduced the size of the key ring, either used a smaller metal ring SAK type with a paracord lanyard which could be used for fishing too *inner threads or the metal screw closed tie that comes with the lifesystems *glo markers keeping the glo marker intact as could be used as a fishing lure *colours green & blue, &/or a mini karabiner I have a few of these. I picked these up in Wilco's last year on discount end of season sale. The contents undecided may just be assorted hooks, hooks to nylon, & some assorted weights, swivel links etc.. used with my hobo fishing reel. I'm open to content suggestions. Meeting my young friend Flyfisher to discuss this in the tackle shop Glasgow later.

Two short lengths of drinking straw....These could have a double use...1) They could hold the assorted weights if bunged at either end...and 2) They could be joined together and bunged to fashion a stick float...this would open up the fishing potential of your kit....

If your looking for ideas of what tied flies to put in your fishing kit check this guy Jack Hargreaves he's a legend and his TV series 'The Old Country' way back when was a must watch...

I did a Google for one of his programmes, Midas, that he shows what he called 'fishing for one and six' where he fashions an 8 to 10 ft rod from I think it was 2 pieces of willow and used a piece of reed for a stick float. The 'one and six' refers to the old money spent on fishing line, hooks, weights and surgical tape he uses to join the 2 pieces of willow together...the bait ?...He dug up some worms and caught a lovely sized Perch....I couldn't find the show, but, did find this...

Wise words....it's true, that first fish gives you a taste for fishing that never leaves you almost like learning to ride a bike...My first fish was a Perch on the Leeds to Liverpool canal and I still remember how it 'Hooked' me....Note the Rule of Thumb that dictates the size of the fish present in a body of water...Thanks for sharing David.....
