Crayfish

Are freshwater Crayfish protected or not? What's the crack on taking them at present; does anyone have any idea?

Our native ones are protected, but the American signal crays are not, you need a permit from DEFRA to legally trap crayfish in the UK buddy....

Yup, what J_P said, and just to reiterate, you even need a permit to take the Signal Crays. This is to stop any mug from catching and releasing (accidentally or on purpose) any specimens thus infesting other water courses.

im pretty sure that you can trap/catch anything if it is a true survival situation,but telling a police ociffer that you missed lunch whislt chewing on a lump of freshly caught north american spider monkey will be not be classed as a life death situation.hope this helps
