Shorts?

Any recommendations for shorts?
All the shorts that seem to be available are almost like "short" long trousers and flap around like a ....
Does anyone know who does decent Safari shorts any more? Ones that finish above the knee? My old pair of Selous Scout shorts have finally given up the unequal struggle :(

I used to wear shorts a lot, but I didn't like being a walking buffet for the black gnats and mozzies, so I wear shorts only for cycling. I used to wear khaki shorts with loads of deep pockets, and I liked them a little too much by stuffing my pockets with stones, birch bark, tinders, and other goodies.

I believe 5.11 sells taclite shorts. I used to cut down a pair of light weight trousers to make shorts, also cut down the jungle trs, shorts are now issued I do have the old issue desert ones, the new ones are in MTP.
