HI
I was thinking about getting a Fallkniven F1 but seems a little pricey any thoughts?

Personally, I'd never spend that sort of money on a knife. I can't think of any possible scenario where it would be good value. On the other hand, as an object of desire, some are only too happy to pay the asking price. Me? I'd sooner spend the money on something more useful.

They certainly do it for me, but it depends what you want from a knife..

As we all keep saying, different blades for different purposes. If you fancy an F1, then you'll enjoy having one as I've only heard good things about 'em. Personally, I'm a bit of a slut as I keep liking different knives, but always rely on the old Moras. Maybe there's an SBT out there with my name on it. It just doesn't know it yet (or my bank manager).

I've had one for years. Great knife.

I am, however, addicted to buying more knives than I will ever use!

There are plenty of reviews online and on youtube and this web site. I think it's value for money and not as expensive as some. It has been proven as an all-round knife and pretty indestructible.

I drooled over the F1 for months, ordered a custom leather sheath with a DC3 stone and sleeve for firesteel, spent I don't know how much on it, then when I got it I was too nervous to take it into the woods in case I damaged or lost it. So here I am using older, cheaper knives while this (admittedly amazing) piece of steel sits in my house waiting for me to get all brave and use it.

Hmmmm

There's a lesson there I think!

Any offers considered! lol

Just while everyone is talking about Mora knives, I found one of these (http://www.heinnie.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=1468&strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=13) at the back of a cupboard and it's amazing!

I have the lowest of the three (Plainsman I think) and it reminds me very much of the Mora knives with it's slim blade but the handle is so much better!

It's been my experience that the VG10 core of the F1 is prone to chipping although I'm told that once it has been sharpened a few times this tendency seems to subside.

I got an F1 last year. It's a good knife, allbeit a little pricey. I had to cut off part of the retention strap on the zytel sheath because it was too long and rolled up. After I got the F1, I too believe I could have gotten something cheaper, and as good of quality for less.

It's a good knife,I like them, but they're over rated for what they cost.

I have 3 F1's and i don't use any of them, i like the fuller grip on the H1 but both F1 and H1 are too think for me as a general purpose knife, i'd use a Mora before i'd use a Fallkniven.
I think the wee WM1 is about the most practical Fallkniven knife out there but i'd still rather use a Mora.

That tends to beg the question, why did you get two more F1's if you don't use the first..?
Hello RB.. Long time no see.. :0)

I like the F1 and have had no trouble with the edge on mine. Blade edges can dink with use on any knife, though I agree the edge on the F1 is very hard, it doesn't need sharpening much. In my opinion the F1 is about as perfect a bushcraft knife there is. Its a good all rounder.

Och I tried the micarta version after the thermolium and then ended up with another thermolium in a trade.
The micarta is a bit more comfortable but they are silly money now, you can buy better custom for that sort of spend.
I really only them for sheath making now.

At my old job, I used to sell quite a lot of Fällknivens products, mainly the F1, S1, U1 and U2.

There is no doubt that Fällkniven knives are great - yet I must admit that I think that they, for what they are, ideally shold cost 20-30% less, for their standard knives. And, 25-45% less for their more exclusive knives. It's imho a classic case of; you don't get nearly twice as much knife, for paying twice as much.

I, personally, have no problem with shelling out big money for a knife - if I feel that I get my money's worth. But, no matter how good Fällkniven are, thay are still mass produced in "unlimited" numbers and readily available.
If we were talking custom/semi custom knives in limited numbers, then yes; I would consider paying what they ask for them. As a collector - as much as I am a user - of knives, I do not want to pay "custom/rare" price for something that is not.
