Started making shave horse number 2 at Dave Budds place with Ashley this morning, and he let me have a look at his crook knife and showed me how to use it. So I had a go on a random piece of ash kicking around the work area. 2 hours later, sat in the dappled sunshine and errr not helping with the shave horse :ashamed: I ended up with a sort of spoon.

Got home, sorted ma gear and settled down with some mead, sandpaper and linseed oil and this is what I've ended up with.

Proper chuffed :D I made it for my wife Emma as a long handled teaspoon to compliment her jetboil that I got for her bday last week. :D And she loves it :D

Linseed oil is actually really good for ya! ;) .. and that side-effect disappears after a few uses anyway.

My second spoon, carved today out in the woods from a piece of willow, which inspired me to make the handle into a willow leaf.

I've just got back from the woods with Phil, Matt & Frankie.... man we've had a spoon whittling weekend! Must have done about 4 or 4, worked on a Bow, Kuksa, Pipe & Axe handle lol!.. didn't know what to turn to next!

Beautiful work there Phil - again making use of scrap! That was Frankie's off-cut from making a whistle. Love the detail & colouring, what did you use for the colouring?

Well, which was it? Could you be more specific? Was it 4 or 4? :p

I was thinking the same thing. There's a vast difference in those two numbers. On the one hand you have only 4, which is an easy feat by any standards, and on the other, you have 4, which is almost impossible for the majority of us. :o

StickyBuds! Cleavers or Goose Grass as its lesser known, but proper names :D
According to my grimoire on wild plants (Wild Flowers of Britain and Ireland by Rae spencer-Jones and Sarah Cuttle... in my top3 favourite books) one of its uses was to make a tea to cure insomnia, appropriate as its my new favourite teaspoon :D

Same here. Could have at least made it simpler to hide by saying "We made either six or a half dozen......."

Went for a stroll in our local woods with Ash, Matt, Zak and the doggies today and Ash handed me a piece of wood he'd cut for a spoon. So after lunch i got stuck into it and this is how it turned out.

Cut some blanks today and cooked our dinner over a fire in the garden. Then settled in front of the fire for the evenin to whittle me a spoon.

I split this piece to make a matching spoon and fork, an idea I pinched off Matt :ashamed:

Forgot to post this when I made it. A friend of mine reckoned I couldnt make a spork, so I had a go and gave it to her as a birthday present. It's a bit rushed as I made it for her on the day, and I'm not overly happy with the prongs, but it does the job :D

Cheers guys :D

I used my folding saw to slice between the prongs early on in the carving, then rounded them with my small carving knife. Then lots of sanding between to get rid of all the splinters!

All the the best
