hello,
I'm replenishing my Bushcraft kit for up & coming winter sessions. I've started doing the inventory & running low on good quality flint :o I'll pay for both the flint & postage. I'd rather trade with NBCUK members I'm familiar with than evil bay (e-Bay) or big river trading (Amazon) :p

There's a quarry not far from me. Reasonably sure there's some flint by product so I'll ask around locally and send some up as a gift if I get any.

hello,
I received a small box today from forum member Humakt who very generously sent me the box free of charge containing nodules of very good quality flint. As Humakt won't accept anything in return (I won't forget the good deed) I made a donation to the Scottish Lomond Mountain Rescue Team via an associate in Glasgow who fund raises for the Lomond Mountain Rescue Team. I've explained why I made the donation & it was accepted. So.. again thank you Humakt for your generosity. I've tried & tested the nodules & throwing off sparks no problem.

hello,
Thanks for the reply. I support the Veterans charities & donate to the Lomond Mountain Rescue Team when I can. Today was a good opportunity. The flint went to a good cause too.. :p LOL.

hello,
*Update.. I've received another small box of English black flint shards from an (anon) :confused2: Bushcrafter who picked up on my thread looking for flint. Awesome I've got enough now for my winter fire lighting skills tuts in the coming months. Thanks again for offers. This is what makes the NBCUK an awesome place to be.

David
*Edited I received a huge Sistema box load of English (South Croydon) flint today. Nodules measured against my Bridge steel striker.

hello,
*Update.. it nearly all gone bar a few nodules. I still have the nodules Humakt gave to me (good stuff that is too). Once the word was out I had good English flint shards between trades & a few GAW's to State Side Bushcrafters, I've now got only a few of these shards for my own use & fire lighting tutorials. I don't mind it was shared & went to a good cause. Hopefully some more of the same quality coming my way in the coming months before Spring. adestu thanks for the heads up. Please be carefully around quarries seeking flint.

David

hello,
A gift from the gods :p a new gravel driveway in town, loaded with small & some sizeable lumps of quartz agate, this has a near black seam through it, looks very much like flint. I asked permission from the owner who was standing in the driveway to look through the pile, very much bemused at my findings, permission was granted no problem. I found a large sized piece which I've struck with the steel striker & it throws off sparks :D looks like I've found some pieces for the FSK. I'll pop over soon & have a proper root through the remaining pile. When I was walking away after a lengthy chat, I did notice a few good dark pieces shiny like flint scattered through the pile. I shall have to find out where this agate was resourced from as if it is flint, it's the good black quality & not milky chert. Nice find if I do say so myself..
Regards
David

Hello sir,
We get more flint around here that we can shake a stick at.... ;)
Im going to start collecting it again , the kids love the chase anyways...
Last year my boy ( he's got a keen eye , even i f I say so myself...) found an old ( i mean old like medieval) axe head, just on a old track we be walked on dozens of times. Nobody ever spotted it until then.
On our dog walks we see loads of flint everywhere ,so please let me know what is considered good quality vs. not so good! so I can send you a load of the good stuff....
Cheers

hello Woody,
Well now your talking.. that's flint country Wiltshire. That was a nice find. So what happened to the axe head? Flint.. If it's black & throws sparks.. IMO I prefer dark flint nodules without the thick chalk outer, it saves time knapping it or cleaning off the chalk. Don't go to any trouble, if you collect the flint by all means, please do let me know the costs of flint with postage. "One man's junk is another man's treasure" as they say. Thanks again for this very kind offer.
Regards
David
*Edited. The Sistema container is near empty in such a short time it was shared with Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme candidates for FSK's & traded a few nodules with BCUSA forum buddy members.

The axe head is still in his "treasure" box with a load of quartz , agate , fossils and all sorts of "artefacts " that he keeps finding...
(He's waiting for me to .make him a shelf/display cabinet thing... It's on the to do list.but that's another story.)
It looks like just pure iron ore looking at the axe head, magnetic and heavy as you like. .
He's really proud of that one. :)
As for the flint , we'l start collecting the stuff this weekend and we ll send you a load when the box is full...
Cheers

Sure thing will try and strike it , but doesn't the steel have to be somehow fandangled to some RC something or other? Like carbon rich or something???
Anyhow will take a picture and post it here tomorrow as it's getting late now.
As for postage no worries sir, it's on me... It's the least a "civy" can do for a veteran gentleman like yourself, who most likely devoted half his life to serving our nation. And more than likely have put your life on the line, many a time , for our benefit.
Besides it's time for me to give back to this community, as I've watched video after video and downloaded a number of books and booklets of information here! For free!!!!!
Oh and it's for a good cause.
I ll ask you for an address when the box is full... :)

Pictures of the "axehead" are on photo albums on my profile page...
Here I thinks http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/forum/member.php?9620-Woody
Feel free to comment, as I'm not even 100% sure it's and axe head...
It's heavy and it sticks to magnets.... So it must be steel . ?

hello,
Thanks Woody for the images. If I were you, I'd see if I could find more details maybe the history of the axe head, you never know, where there's one there could be other finds. I don't see myself as a 'Veteran' or use such to gain anything "the best job I ever had" as the saying goes. I'm proud to have served my country, travelled, made the best friends I ever had in the process. I'll pay you or as a previous NBCUK trade make a donation to any charity as recompense. Quartz (agate) throws sparks again with quartz not all agates like so are hot it's a kind of hit or a miss (pardon the pun.. not intended).
Regards
David
