I have recently been pondering the idea of adding an external pouch to my Gen3 pack OD green Cordura is easy enough to procure but I'm curious about the seam tape, buckles, and webbing. Are they cotton or poly? Not quite sure, also does anyone know where I could pick up a couple more of the buckles? I could make do without but would like to have the pouch match the ruck as-well as possible. If you know the name of the pad/insert for the back that would be great as-well.

Why not see if you can pick up a cheaper, tattier, version of your pack and then you could chop it up and use the material and fixings from that?
There are plenty of those German mountain packs around so I'm sure you could find one suitable for the chopping block - a grade 2 or 3 from a surplus store?
To be honest, by the time you've sourced alternative material and buckles you wouldn't have saved that much in cash, and chopping up an old pack will mean the material has the same level of wear and will look like it's been there all along.
Anyway, that's what I would look to do.

I have considered it and it's a great idea. The problem is finding them has been difficult. It might be because I'm in the U.S. but Most of what I'm finding is either fakes, the old canvas versions, or just ridiculously priced. Do you or does anyone else reading have a good source for the Gen3 versions? I would greatly appreciate it. it would also be nice if they had the folding mats/pads to go with them I have found a few on ebay but if I could get both from the same place it might save some shipping.

Yer welcome :D

They are overpriced because ebay sellers realise that they go like hot cakes. They're hoping to pry away more money from buyers that way. Whenever something becomes popular or popularised on social media or online in general, expect the price to jump up.

Oh, I have found the folding German Army mats on a US site, but the shipping cost would be horrendous...it's bad enough in the States, since they use FedEx.
On and off, though, I have seen them on MilitaryMart. I haven't bought from them, but lots of folks here have.
