Hi all, bought me and the mrs a Svord Peasant each, one was black, and the other one I bought was available in my least favourite colour, pink!
So today I went about making a new handle for it out of some plum wood that my brother gave me, using only a tenon saw, fret saw, bit and brace, a rasp, sandpaper and a good dollop of elbow grease :)

I second the Kolsoring idea. Especially if you reflect the Kiwi heritage of this knife with some Whakairo style designs. That would look awesome.

Well heres my first feeble attempt of Kolrosing, ( I asked Mrs to draw it as she is the artistic one) took Midge_Fodder's advice on the style, and went with Kirituhi but just noticed the edit to Whakairo oops! never mind lol [emoji3] Never attempted this before so all and any advice/criticism welcome

I just cut the design and rubbed the cinnamon in, Claire did the drawing, I can't take the credit for that [emoji3]
Looking for some symbols to go on the other side now, really enjoyed the process

Hey , I can do that !
I can send you some burr....
I been given a nice bit (can't remember but might be cedar or maple) a while back.
Been meaning to make a kuksa but just haven't had time yet , but there's plenty on there to send you enough for your knife blanks.
Send me sizes ( thickness, width, length) and I'll put it on the band saw tomorrow...

Hello bud.
Sorry for late reply, only just got in from work.
I got that burr off the workshop but Im not too sure it'l be OK?
Turns out it's birch burr , but for some reason , the "bucks eye" markings have indentations instead of just little knots.
It's almost like the knots turned to shakes if you know what I mean.

I got some pics , so you can have a look a decide if you still want it...

No offence taken either way, if anything I'm sorry that I raised your expectations and now it's looking iffy.

Just thought that with furniture grade coloured wax, a seal and a steady hand you can fill those indentations smooth...

Otherwise there's always plan B :
plenty of choice here:

Hi Shepherd,
It's called kolrosing.

Here is the original link that I provided for wildwonderingwoodsman...

http://www.ravenlore.co.uk/html/kolrosing.html

Here is a Dave Canterbury tutorial on the method....

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGHNz_tnTAM

And a different video about the same thing but I just like the Dude's accent...lol

There is another very similar technique called scrimshaw, and here is a (really good!!!) tutorial by another member of our community

Enjoy!
