so Im planning going on a long wild camping trip, I'd like to keep the weight down but want a quality shelter that's not going to leak or rip or any other disaster, as I will by home for a week. I'm a long time lover of bushcraft and being in nature in general but recently start to get some kit together so I can go out for longer than a day, any ideas would be greatly appreciated ?

Hi Wanderlust
Welcome to the forum, there'll be no shortage of answers, but I guess depends on budget to start with, like everything else, there are good ones to get you out there, and then there are expensive ones, if it's something you've not done before I would opt for the cheaper ones, Here's some to think about

I've no association with any, but it's a start.
Good luck with what you choose and keep us informed

hi Sylvanbilly
thank you mate budget wise I'm think 100 - 150, I've seen the snugpak ionosphere and was quiet impressed, but that Coleman Aravis looks impressive as well and slightly cheaper! Coleman is a quality brand I think as well? I've not heard of much of snugpak.

Check out backpacking light.co.uk and look at the Luxe brand of tents. Lightweight and small pack size, I have been using the Hex Peak for a while now and it is my favourite out of all my collection. Other than that look at Wild Country by Terra Nova. I have the Coshee and that is my 'go to' winter tent.

I think it's a toss up between the snugpak ionosphere, or the Falcon bivi tent.. has anyone had any first hand experience with either of these shelters?

For me personally there is no way I would use a small one person tent on a week long trip; when raining its like being stuck in a coffin... and it does rain in the UK lol.

Look for a two person tent, often little difference in pack size and weight and you will love the extra space. If you can stretch your budget take a look at https://www.tarptent.com/double-moment.html and their range of tents, a friend now has a tent off them and loves the design and build quality.

Good sale on here http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/tents/1-2-person-tents/vango

There's a Chinese company called Naturehike that shamelessly - and I mean shamelessly - rip-off the western high-end tents by the likes of Big Agnes. However, they use really top-end materials, ultralight silicone etc, and they tend to come with free groundsheets, really top-end lightweight but strong aluminium stakes, etc.. It means you can get an ultralight tent 1 or 2 man tent for about £80. Some tents (more last year's models than current ones) have had some issues, but they've been really good about replacing parts. You should check for Youtube reviews on the models.

Just checked out the nature hike site. They have a 'sleeping bag for three men'. Talk about niche.

LOL, or just a comfy bag for a plus-sized couple? ;)

Or possibly comfy for a normal sized adult and a staffy who likes his creature comforts! :happy-clapping:

I have the Dutch hooped bivi and the wynnchester canvas bedroll. I have spent 2 weeks in both and the wynnchester was a lot more comfortable due to size and canvas and mossie net and shape.

The other options for a good price are also the stuff from snugpack like the stratosphere and they do a small two man tent as well which has a pretty low profile and easy to pitch as well.
