Bushcraft Skills in Need of Improvement.

If there is one thing, in terms of bushcraft, that I'm just no good at its sharpening blades. No matter what I do they all end up butter knifes... :(

...so what bushcraft skills elude or dog you and why? :mad:

Maybe we can learn from each others mistakes as well as getting a monkey off our backs at the same time haha.

Tree identification is one of my bushy weakness,especially this time of years when there's no leaves .

Knots, tree Id, general crafting, basically anything that involves eyesight

Learning is all part of the fun, practice makes perfect as they say ;)

Knots is one of my draw backs, I just can't remember them when I need them.

At the moment its friction fire lighting done it before but seem to have lost the knack

For me this year I am going to focus on all forms of fire lighting and try to gain knowledge of what's edible.

I used to be rubbish at knots but by keeping a length of paracord in the kitchen and drumming a few useful knots into my brain I can now easily tie the following even in the dark:

Siberian hitch
Tarp taut hitch
Farramond
Prussic
Bowline
Reef
Figure of eight

Oh and that shoe and boot lace one that never comes undone unless you want it to :o

Fungi ID - I can only readily identify some of the shelf polypores.
Tracking - Easy in winter, not so in the warmer months.

Finding the time to get out there is my biggest bugbear, as someone else said earlier "Practise makes Perfect"
Youtube is great but no substitute for the real thing.....

ps. Well done on fire lighting Sapper - this just makes my point exactly
