Went out with my cousin Rich today for a brew in the woods, we were visiting a new piece of land that a friend recently bought, to hopefully secure access to it, to camp & have fires etc.
It turned out to be a great day.
1. We got permission to use the land for camping, fires, hunting etc. It's fairly local and we're allowed to go down there without even ringing in advance (although it's polite to do so anyway!) The land has got Deer (spotted 2 on first visit), Pheasant & Rabbits, unfortunately the wooded areas are small, it's mostly fields but still none the less it's always lovely to get permission to access & use land.
2. I convinced the landowner that instead of burning the numerous large piles of wood & brush they had cleared he should turn them into 'habitat-piles' on areas of land he wouldn't use, to help & encourage the Wildlife on his land. He sounded receptive to the idea and said he would! Result! There was probably at least 3 big piles the size of this one.
3. Whilst driving we saw the car in front hit a big cock-pheasant, Rich laughed at my comment "That's lunch sorted" we pulled over and it was in good nick (.. well for the pot at least, not it's own health!). Skinned the bird mostly with my hands, just used the F1 for a few joints and brought home some quality meat for tea.
All in all a good day.
