That's not a stupid question Kieran. They are called "Shave Horses", a shave-horse is a tool that you sit on and thanks to a swinging frame that you move with your legs it can pinch and hold a piece of wood for you, leaving both of your hands free to work other tools like a draw knife. If you search YouTube for a video called: "Using a Shaving Horse for Chair Building" you will see one being used.

Your shaving horses turned out great!!! I have made a couple out of dimentienal lumber but never from hand hewed wood. Wonderful time it seems. I have wrapped leather or inner tube around the dumb head to aid in it not slipping when drawing.

Rock Samphire (still usable, but a bit over now, coastal)

Common Sorrel
Ivy-Leaved Toadflax
Wood sorrel
Three-cornered leek
